How Mobile phone design changed in 2007

This picture made me smile, mobile phones pre 2007 on the left, and post the iPhone launch in 2007… the impact that the iPhone had on mobile design is pretty easy to see!

I’ve always owned ‘smart’ devices, I used to dream of owning a Windows Pocket PC phone edition, but my budget was limited to a PPC and a mobile phone. When I recall some of the phone’s I’ve owned they did come in so many shapes and sizes, but now the touch screen rules smart devices and they all look so very similar.
I still have a friend who swears his Nokia 8110 was one of the best phones ever! (His nickname is Analogue Baz, so that might explain it…)
What car was that?
It reminds me of cars a few years ago, every car manufacturer seemed to designing ‘me too’ styles of cars as they all strove to create more aerodynamical shapes, eventually every car would look like a teardrop… was that a Ford or Vauxhall that I just passed? Im pleased to say that things have changed a little, car design has regained some personality, the Fiat 500 being one of my favourite new shapes (Followed by Toyota IQ!)
The Future of mobile desgin
I hope that phone designers will slowly ease away from the ‘me too’ design of modern phones in some innovative ways too, I guess the touch screen is here to stay for a while, but where have all the keyboards gone? They just seem limited to Blackberry now.
However with Apple pushing Siri (Watch phone soon?) and Google trialling HUD glasses now, new designs may come quicker than I think!
Google Glasses? Really?
They sound intriguing see this Google Glasses Article… however Google relies on advertising…. getting a HUD display asking me if Im hungry as I walk past McDonalds….No thank you very much! The future could be scary!
